Educandário Bento de Abreu Sampaio Vidal premisses 1960-1963

Educandário Bento de Abreu Sampaio Vidal seen in all its glory... 3 great floors for the education of the destitute children of the poor and negleted population... 
A bird's eye view of the compound which started in the 1930s with the construction first of Santa Casa de Misericórdia on Avenida Vicente Ferreira, 828; then the building of the Church of Santa Isabel (which is actually a mini-Saint Benedict church) in the 1950s on Avenida Vicente Ferreira, 980 (see the lonely building on the lower extreme left of the photo) and finally the erection of Educandário itself in the late 50s and early 60s (the 3-floor building on the upper extreme-left).

Educandario Bento de Abreu Sampaio Vidal 1958

Canadian priests and brothers from the Saint Vincent de Paul Society from Montreal arrive at the Marilia airfield in 1958, and are welcomed by Bishop Hugo Bressane de Araújo and local authorities.

Suddenly it started to drizzle; the boy finally got rid of the flower-bunch he had been holding forever... Pe. Emilio is holding the flowers now while Brother João (wearing glasses) looks on...
